We
Do What We Do
There are a
total of seven departments operating under the Department of Public
Works, making for a widely diversified arm of city government.
Things can go wrong almost every day, our citizens want action, and
we’re here to help, but sometimes a call to the wrong department
delays the response. With seven departments the Department of Public
Works handles a wide variety of requests or complaints each and
every day. The following summarized listing may help our
citizens understand what we do and, ultimately, what we don’t do:

Facility repairs and maintenance;

Conduct summer parks program (Eastside, Southside and
Clevenger

Trash removal and portable toilet maintenance.

of greens fees, annual pass fees, cart rental fees, etc.;
Grounds maintenance (greens, fairways, irrigation, etc.);
Conduct
annual city golf tournament;

Airport
Develop
and maintain airport layout plan;
Secure federal and state
grants, working with MI Bureau of Aeronautics and FAA;
Oversee airport improvement projects (fencing, runways, buildings,
taxiways, etc;
Runway, building, and grounds
maintenance.
Note: Daily operations (aircraft fueling,
maintenance, etc. handled by FBO (Astro Star Aviation)

Cemetery
Sale
of
burial lots;

Oversee
operations of all departments under DPW administration;
Handle requests and complaints from public;

Administer Michigan Department of Transportation maintenance
