A nine member Parks and Recreation board serves in an advisory
capacity, meeting on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 7:00 pm at
the City Council chambers, which are adjacent to the Niles fire
station, 1345 East Main St. The public is invited to attend. The
board assists with planning for park improvement or expansion
projects, parks maintenance, etc.; establishes rules and regulations
regarding park use; and advises on the replacement of park
equipment.
Summer parks programs for area youth are popular in June, July
and early August and are held at Eastside Park, Southside Park, and
Clevenger Park. A summer concert series is held at the Amphitheater
just north of Main St. on the river in June, July and August.
Concerts are financially supported by the City of Niles, Arts
Council of Greater Kalamazoo, Inc., and the Michigan Council for the
Arts and Cultural Affairs.
